Virtual Research Servers

With the advent of the college IT Shared Service Private Cloud, capacity is available for you to build and maintain a virtual research server for your computing needs.  There are dramatic savings, both financially and logically, in using the private cloud rather than purchasing a physical server.  When considering all the costs associated with a research server (purchasing, installation, housing, power, support, salvage), virtual servers can be dramatically less expensive with greater up-time and performance capability.

To discuss the use of the virtual cloud for your research needs, please contact IT Shared Services at coeitss-support@ucdavis.edu.  General pricing for the service is:

Virtual Server: $170/year
1 vCPU, 1GB RAM

Premium SAN Storage: $3/year
1GB storage on high speed enterprise class storage system.  The SAN does snapshots and offsite replication to ensure data is protected to two geo-diverse locations.
