Windows XP Action Plan

The Faculty IT Committee has recommended that all computer systems running windows XP be removed from the campus network effective April 8th, 2014.  This recommendation follows Microsoft’s announcement that Windows XP will no longer be supported as of this date.

New vulnerabilities in the Windows XP operating system will no longer be addressed by Microsoft, creating a significant attack vector for malicious individuals.  These systems can then be used to disrupt operations of other systems and impact our teaching and research.

IT is working with individual faculty and researchers to identify impacted systems and develop an action plan.  IT staff will work to upgrade capable systems to a current OS.  Any system that is unable to upgrade must either be removed from the network or request a short-term exception from the Faculty IT Committee.
